Arabian football club Al-Nasr, which includes Portugal’s star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, is reportedly planning to appoint Manuel Pellegrini as its new head coach. Pellegrini, who previously worked with Ronaldo at Real Madrid in 2009/10, is currently the head coach of Spanish team Betis. The Chilean expert also led Manchester City from 2013 to 2016 and worked as the head coach of England’s West Ham from July 2018 to December 2019. Al-Nasr finished second in the Saudi Arabian Championship last season, and Ronaldo’s team was eliminated in the semi-finals of the national Cup and Super Cup.

Al-Nasr’s Arab leadership, including Portugal star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, plans to appoint Chilean Manuel Pellegrini as head coach.


Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Arab Al Nasr last December as a free agent. The Portuguese was unhappy with the team’s head coach, Rudy Garcia, which prompted his resignation in April.

At the end of the season, Ronaldo’s acting head coach was Dinko Jelic.

Al-Nasr’s leadership is consulting with Chilean expert Manuel Pellegrini and plans to appoint him to the vacant position, as reported by the Arab website Okaz.

The mentor previously worked with Ronaldo at Real Madrid in the 2009/10 season.

  • From 2013 to 2016, Pellegrini led Manchester City, which in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League season 2015/16 beat Dynamo Kiev under the leadership of Sergei Rebrov (3:1, 0:0).
  • From July 2018 to December 2019, Manuel worked as the head coach of England’s West Ham. One of the London club’s first transfers during the mentorship was the acquisition of Ukrainian midfielder Andriy Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund for 20 million euros.
  • Pellegrini, 69, has been in charge of Betis since August 2020. The mentor led the team to sixth place in the last season of the Spanish Examples and won a ticket to the Europa League group stage with him. In the 2021/22 season, the Sevillian team won the Spanish Cup.
  • Al-Nasr finished second in the Saudi Arabian Championship last season. Ronaldo’s team was eliminated in the semi-finals of the national Cup and Super Cup.
