Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian legionnaire is unlikely to return to the Pitmen squad as the war rages on in Ukraine.

Due to the start of the war in Ukraine, almost all the legionnaires left Donetsk Shakhtar and, thanks to the FIFA rules on temporary suspension of contracts, were able to get a job in another football club, despite the current agreement with the Donetsk club.

A few days ago Shakhtar head coach Igor Jovicevich commented on rumors about the possible return of Marlon from Brazil, who currently plays for Monza, to the Donetsk club. Then Pitmen’s mentor sent a reporter to Dirio Srna, and football commentator Viktor Vacko talked to the sports director of the Donetsk club on this topic.

“Will Marlon, Maicon and Pedrinho return to Shakhtar in the new season? I spoke to Srna about this issue. As far as I understand, Shakhtar does not live with illusions and does not depend on them.

The Donetsk club understands that during the war in Ukraine, none of the Brazilian legionnaires will return here. When the war is over, Shakhtar will decide this issue,” Vacko said in the author’s program broadcast on YouTube.

Currently, the following Brazilian players from Shakhtar have suspended their contracts:

  • Tete plays at Leicester (contract with Shakhtar until the end of 2023);
  • Pedrinho plays at Atlético Mineiro (until summer 2025);
  • Marlon plays for Monza (until summer 2026);
  • Vitao plays for Internacional (until summer 2024);
  • Maicon plays for Corinthians (until the end of 2025);
  • Vinicius Tobias plays at Real Madrid (until summer 2026).
