Shakhtar Donetsk, the Ukrainian champions, are considering four foreign coaches to replace Igor Jovičević. The club’s president, Rinat Akhmetov, decided to sack Jovičević after winning a 14th Ukrainian title. One of the contenders for the position of Shakhtar mentor is Patrick van Leeuwen, who won UPL bronze with Zorya, and an alternative to van Leeuwen is the Dutch specialist Arne Sloth. The club’s coaching shortlist also includes yesterday’s Conference League finalists Vincenzo Italiano (Fiorentina) and the unemployed Gennaro Gattuso. It will not be easy for van Leeuwen to return to Shakhtar, given that his contract with Zorya contains a clause exceeding one million euros.
