France and Italy Milan striker Olivier Giroud talks about his favorite footballer, whom the striker emulated in his youth.


Olivier Giroud has never hidden that his idol is Ukrainian football legend and former Milan striker, Andriy Shevchenko.

“I followed Milan when I was a teenager in the late 1990s. In particular, one of the players who made me fall in love with this team was Andriy Shevchenko.”

The French striker added that he emulated Shevchenko in his youth, and also considered the Ukrainian to be one of the best strikers in football history.

“I try to imitate him in training, even in the way he runs, in his grace. He is one of the greatest strikers, so perfect. He can score goals with his right and left foot, with his head, and he is also fast,” Tuttomercatoweb quoted the Frenchman with reference to UEFA’s official channel.

  • Giroud has been defending the colors of Milan since the summer of 2021. Currently, the 36-year-old Frenchman has spent 79 matches in the red and black T-shirt, scoring 27 goals and providing 11 assists.
  • We add that Olivier is the champion of the French national team in goals scored – 53 goals.
  • Shevchenko played for Milan from 1999 to 2006, and also in the 2008/2009 season. In total, as part of the Italian giants, he played 322 matches in which he scored 175 goals.
