Al Ain head coach Sergei Rebrov commented on his team’s victory over Al Wasl (3:2) in the away match of the 25th round of the UAE Championship.


Ukrainian Al Ain coach Sergey Rebrov spoke about the victory over Al Wasl, which unfortunately, did not allow his team to continue the fight for the championship in the UAE.

“Before the match, I stated that our task against Al Wasl was not easy. Moreover, we meet the opponent on his field and among his fans. Al-Wasl has shown itself at a good level this season.”

According to the expert, until the last moment he instilled faith in the players that they could still compete for the title.

“I said that we will fight for any chance to retain the championship, and the players showed high spirit and strong desire throughout the match, which allowed them to win,” Al Ain press service quoted Rebrov as saying.

Note that Al Ain in the last round of the championship will no longer be able to claim victory in the league. In the parallel match of the 25th round, the table leader Al-Ahli defeated Bani Yas (2:1) on the road, maintaining its lead over Al-Ain and winning the gold medal.

However, we would like to emphasize that Rebrov’s charge still has a sporting motivation for the final match. The team continues its correspondence confrontation with Al-Wahda for second place.

  • In the final round, Al-Ain will host Al-Bataeh at home, and Al-Wahda will also play at home with Bani Yas club. Both matches will take place on May 26.
  • Rebrov & Co still have a chance to win a trophy this season as the team continue their run in the League Cup. In the semi-finals, Al Ain will face Al Nasr. The matches will be played on May 17 and 21.
