Former Ukrainian coach Vitaliy Kvartsyany has commented on the appointment of Oleksandr Petrakov as the new head coach of the Ukrainian national team. Kvartsyany revealed that the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) had hoped for Sergei Rebrov to take on the role, but ultimately had to appoint Petrakov. The Ukrainian national team will begin their training camp on June 8th in Bremen, with a friendly match against Germany scheduled for June 12th. The team will then face qualifying matches for Euro 2024 against Macedonia and Malta on June 16th and 19th respectively. Petrakov previously led the Ukrainian national team from August 2021 to December 2022.

Vitaliy Kvartsyany admitted that UAF hoped for the arrival of Sergei Rebrov in 2021, but, in the end, they had to appoint Oleksandr Petrakov as the coach of the Ukrainian national team.

“We approved Petrakov at half past one in the Executive Committee. “It’s enough, it’s enough, it’s enough, Rebrov doesn’t want it.”

The Ukrainian national team will start its training camp on June 8 in Bremen. On June 12, blue-yellow will play a friendly match with the German team, and on June 16 and 19 – qualifying matches for Euro 2024 against Macedonia and Malta in Skopje and Slovakia Trnava, respectively.

  • Petrakov led the Ukrainian national team from August 2021 to December 2022, but did not qualify for the Qatari Mundial and did not win the National League group.
