French club Marseille signed Ukraine national team and former Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovsky during the winter transfer window for his experience playing in European leagues. Marseille president Pablo Longoria spoke about the signing, stating that Malinovsky’s experience was needed for the team to quickly start performing well. Malinovsky struggled to adjust at first but went on to play 23 games for Marseille, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Before joining Marseille, Malinovsky played for Sevastopol, Zorya, Genk, and Atalanta and has also represented the Ukrainian national team in 52 matches.
Ukraine national team and Marseille midfielder Ruslan Malinovsky was signed by the French club’s leadership in the winter transfer window due to his experience.
Marseille president Pablo Longoria commented on the signing of new arrivals in the winter transfer window. According to him, Ruslan Malinovsky was signed because of his years of experience playing in European leagues.
“The winter transfer window is a maintenance transfer window. With the signing of Vitinya, we expect activity to come, and with Malinovsky we want his experience to work quickly. Ruslan is having trouble adjusting,” Longoria said in an interview with Football Club de Marseille.

The 30-year-old Malinovsky moved to Marseille from Italy’s Atalanta in the winter transfer window and played 23 games for the Provencals, where he scored two goals and provided one assist.
- Before moving to Marseille, the Ukrainian midfielder also played for Sevastopol, Zorya, Genk and Atalanta.
- Malinovsky also had 52 matches in the Ukrainian national team, where he scored seven goals and the same number of assists.
