Myron Markevich, the new head coach of Lviv Karpaty, is looking to make gains with the help of newcomers, according to expert Oleg Fedorchuk. Markevych was officially appointed on June 1 and is tasked with leading the club to the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) next season. Fedorchuk, in an interview with Football Ukraine, discussed the possibility of famous players such as Yevhen Konoplyanka and Dmytro Chygrynsky joining the club, but expressed doubts regarding their willingness to play in the First League. Instead, Fedorchuk suggested that Karpaty could benefit from the return of Bulgarian Grand Ludogorets player Plastun, who previously played for the club.

Expert Oleg Fedorchuk spoke about the potential gains by newcomers, which the new head coach of Lviv Karpaty Myron Markevich will try to do.

On June 1, Markevych officially became the new coach of Karpaty and next season he will try to solve the problem of reaching the UPL.

Fedorchuk, in an interview with Football Ukraine, talked about the appearance of the famous player in the Carpathians, who played under the guidance of a 72-year-old expert.

“I doubt about Konoplyanka and Chygrynsky. Independent players are unlikely to want to lose a year of their career in the First League. Moreover, I doubt that Konoplyanka will be able to play in the Carpathians. Even stars fail in the First League,” added the expert.

Fedorchuk also named a more realistic option that would strengthen Karpaty and increase their chances of getting into the Premier League.

“However, I think there will still be some iconic footballers, not from Dnipro and Metallist, but from the Carpathians. For example – Plastun. Yes, he plays in the Bulgarian Grand Ludogorets, but if Karpaty offers good conditions, then why not return under the Premier League, “said Fedorchuk.

  • Markevich previously came to the post of head coach of Karpaty four times (1992-1995, 1996-1999, 2001-2002, 2003-2004).
  • The 72-year-old coach led Lviv to the bronze medal of the Ukrainian Championship in the 1997/98 season, and also reached the final of the Ukrainian Cup twice (1993, 1999).
  • Karpaty finished the 2022/23 season in fifth place in the First League championship group, passing the play-offs for the right to play in the UPL.
