AC Milan has announced that Paolo Maldini will be stepping down from his role as technical director after five years at the club. Maldini’s responsibilities will be taken over by a working group that will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the first-team coach. The decision to remove Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massaru reportedly came after disagreements with AC Milan owner Jerry Cardinale over the development of the club. Maldini and Massara were the creators of Milan’s title last year, and in the 2022/23 campaign, the team reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 16 years.

Milan have announced the departure of Paolo Maldini as technical director of the Rossoneri after five years in the managerial role.


Maldini’s responsibilities at the club will be taken over by a working group that will work closely with the first-team coach, reporting directly to the CEO, according to Milan’s official website.

AC Milan owner Jerry Cardinale has decided to fire Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massaru due to disagreements over the development of the club.

Maldini and Massara insist the club needs to invest more to stay ahead. Cardinale adheres to the concept of small investments, relying on the promotion of lesser-known players.
