Real Madrid’s Ukrainian goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin, has narrowly avoided being named the team’s worst player last season, according to a report by Goal. The 24-year-old goalkeeper played 12 games in all competitions, conceding 13 goals, while acting as an understudy to Belgian goalkeeper Thibault Courtois. Lunin was placed 20th out of 22 players in the rating compiled by British journalist Thomas Hindle, who gave him a score of five out of 10. Real Madrid finished second in La Liga last season under Carlo Ancelotti and won the Copa del Rey.

Andrei Lunin last season was the understudy for Belgian goalkeeper Thibault Courtois at Real Madrid. The Ukrainian goalkeeper has played 12 games in all competitions and conceded 13 goals.
Thomas Hindle, a reporter for the authoritative British edition of Goal, compiled a rating of all the players of the “royal club” and put Andrei in 20th place out of 22, evaluating his actions last season with approx. 5 on a ten point scale.
“What is to be done with a substitute goalkeeper who has the unenviable task of playing second in command behind Thibaut Courtois? “Lunin played 12 games and didn’t shine all season,” Hindle wrote.
Midfielder Eden Hazard was recognized as Real Madrid’s worst player at the end of last season, which received a rating 2. Striker Mariano Diaz did not fare much better (3/10).

Hindle assessed the possibility of a contract extension between Lunin and the Madrid club.
“While he deserves credit for a couple of El Clasico saves in October, he hasn’t made a significant impact for the rest of the season. His contract expires in June 2024 and a new deal seems unlikely,” added Hindle.
The match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, which took place in October, ended with the victory of the host team Madrid with a score of 3:1.
