The president of the Football Federation of the so-called “Luhansk People’s Republic,” Yuri Malygin, has stated that Zarya, a football club that left its hometown in 2014 after it was occupied, may be able to participate in the championship of the attacking country. Malygin mentioned that the Lugansk club already operates in the occupied territory and has represented the republic in tournaments. While Zorya currently aims for a unified championship, Malygin believes that over time, the club will return to the elite of Russian football. This development comes as Russia plans to include clubs from Crimea, leading the Football Association of Ukraine to appeal to UEFA and FIFA for intervention.

President of the “LPR” Football Federation Yuri Malygin said that the Lugansk club under the same name operates in the occupied territory.
“There is no discussion about Lugansk. But we don’t need to create a new Dawn. We have an academy, they adequately represented the republic in the Rostov tournament. For now, we are aiming for a unified championship, but nothing can be ruled out in the future,” said Malygin.
Malygin said that Zorya can participate in the FNL, which is the second part of the Russian championship.
“To enter the FNL, you need to be prepared: this is the material and sports component and, most importantly, the infrastructure. We don’t have this yet. But I am sure that over time, Zorya will return to the elite of Russian football,” the RB Sport website quoted Malygin as saying.
