Mircea Lucescu, head coach of Dynamo Kyiv, is reportedly in the running for the position of Fenerbahce coach in the Turkish Super League. Current Fenerbahce head coach, Jorge Jesus, is unlikely to remain in office next season, and Lucescu is said to be the main candidate for the job. Turkish journalist Ahmet Ercanlar reported that the club saw Lucescu working in tandem with former legendary Fenerbahce goalkeeper, Volkan Demirel, who is currently in charge of Hatayspor. Lucescu has experience in the Turkish Super League, having led Galatasaray and Besiktas in the past. His contract with Dynamo Kyiv runs until June 30, 2024.

Current Fenerbahce head coach Jorge Jesus is unlikely to remain in office next season.

The main candidate for the position of coach of the Istanbul team is Mircea Lucescu. Turkish journalist Ahmet Ercanlar reported that the club saw Tuan working in tandem with former legendary Fenerbahce goalkeeper Volkan Demirel (2002-2019).

Demirel has been in charge of Hatayspor since September 2022. The club withdrew from Turkey’s elite division due to the devastating effects of the February earthquake. The 41-year-old previously worked at Fenerbahce (2019-2021) as an assistant coach.

RadyoGol stated that Fenerbahce will say goodbye to Jesus on June 11 after the last match in the Turecinna Cup final with Basaksehir.

  • Demirel played 523 matches for Fenerbahce and won 10 trophies in Turkey.
  • Lucescu has experience in the Turkish Super League. The 77-year-old specialist led Galatasaray (2000-2002) and Besiktas (2002-2004).
  • Tuan twice became the champion of Turkey (2002/2003 – Besiktas, 2001/2002 – Galatasaray). Together with the latter, he won the UEFA Super Cup in 2000.

Lucescu’s contract with Dynamo runs until June 30, 2024. Now Tuan is on sick leave, and Alexander Shovkovsky performs his duties. One round before the end of the UPL season, Kievans guaranteed themselves fourth place in the standings.
