Former Ukrainian national team and Dynamo Kyiv striker, Viktor Leonenko, now a football expert, has named the best coach of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) for the 2022/23 season. In an interview with FanDay.net, Leonenko named Patrick van Leeuwen at Zara and Vladimir Sharan at Minaj as worthy mentions, but said that Shakhtar’s mentor, Igor Jovicevich, cannot be called the best in the completed season. Despite Shakhtar winning the championship, Leonenko believes they only won due to the individual quality of the players and not because of Jovicevic’s coaching skills.
Former striker of the Ukrainian national team and Dynamo Kyiv Viktor Leonenko, who is now a football expert, named the best UPL coach of the 2022/23 season.
Exclusively for FanDay.net, Viktor Leonenko, Jozsef Szabo and Oleg Fedorchuk form the symbolic UPL team of the 2022/23 season.
Leonenko believes that Shakhtar’s mentor Igor Jovicevich cannot be called the best in the completed Ukrainian championship.
“Usually champion coaches are recognized as the best, but not in this case. It seems that Jovićević learned how to play Shakhtar, and they became champions only because of the individual quality of the players.
No matter how Jovicevic tried to destroy Shakhtar, he failed. Feyenoord showed strength during Shakhtar.”

According to the expert, it is worth noting the work of Patrick van Leeuwen at Zara and Vladimir Sharan at Minaj.
“Van Leeuwen had the most successful season at Zara. You can also put Sharan, but Minay is in the middle of the table. Van Leeuwen, like Sharan, blinds the team from shit. He gathered unnecessary players in Zara and achieved results,” said Leonenko.
- Shakhtar under the leadership of Jovicevich became the champion of Ukraine.
- Zorya, led by Van Leeuwen, fought for the silver medal until the last round, but finished second in the Premier League.
- Minay and Sharan finished the national championship in tenth place.
