Dynamo head coach Mircea Lucescu has shared his thoughts on the unique and challenging tournament that has been taking place in Ukraine amidst the ongoing war in the country. In an interview with a European newspaper, Lucescu discussed the difficulties of holding the Ukrainian Premier League under martial law and the constant danger of airstrikes. Despite these challenges, Lucescu expressed the importance of Ukrainian football persevering in these difficult conditions. He also revealed that he had received attractive offers to leave the country but chose to stay at Dynamo. Lucescu took over as head coach of Dynamo in 2020 and his contract with the club expires in 2024.

Mircea Lucescu, in an interview with a European newspaper, shared details about holding the Ukrainian Premier League under martial law and the constant danger from airstrikes.
“It’s easy to be human when you’re successful. It’s even harder when it seems like everyone is against you. It is very important for Ukrainian football to continue in very difficult conditions.
They play without fans, various problems, training is interrupted. One game was interrupted with five minutes remaining. We sat for an hour and then returned to the field.

The Romanian expert also admitted that he had several attractive offers to leave the war-torn country, but he did not fall for them, but decided to stay at Dynamo at this difficult time.
“Due to the very long distance, I had a situation where I had to undergo surgery to remove coxarthrosis. I cross the border twice a week. However, he did not betray anyone, he refused a very good offer. I am still in business, even if I am the oldest coach in Europe or world football,” said Lucescu in a comment to Antena3.
- Lucescu took over Dynamo in the summer of 2020, his contract with the Kyiv club expires in the summer of 2024.
- Dynamo finished the 2022/23 season in fourth place, 12 points behind champions Shakhtar.
- In the new season, the residents of Kiev will play in the Conference League.
