Donetsk Shakhtar have won the Ukrainian Premier League title after defeating Dnipro-1 3-0 in the 29th round of the tournament. The victory came ahead of schedule and marked the 14th time the club has won the championship. Dnipro-1 had been the team’s main rival throughout the tournament, but lost to Vorskla in the 28th round, leaving them five points behind with just two rounds to go. Sports journalist Artem Frankov criticised referee Yaroslav Kozyk’s decision not to favour Dnipro-1 during the match with Vorskla. Dnipro-1 must now beat Kryvbas in the final round to qualify for the Champions League.
Renowned sports journalist Artem Frankov commented on Donetsk Shakhtar’s early title win in the current UPL season.
Shakhtar became the champions of Ukraine ahead of schedule after defeating Dnipro-1 in the 29th round of the Premier League, which took place on May 28 (3:0).
Dnipro was Pitmen’s main rival throughout the tournament, but before the meeting they lost to Vorskla (1:2) and were five points behind with two rounds to go. The match with the Poltava team was remembered by the referee Yaroslav Kozyk’s decision that did not favor Oleksandr Kucher’s team.
The authoritative sports journalist Artem Frankov shared his opinion about the referee’s mistakes on the air of the YouTube channel “Ruslan Bizyaev’s Studio”.
“When Shakhtar nailed Dnepr-1 at the finish line in absentia, Dnepr-1 did not arouse sympathy at all. The ending was like this… Match Dnepr-1 – Vorskla (1:2) – well, frankly, they beat the judges. And it is clear who, for whose benefit,” said Frankov.
Frankov also talked about how Shakhtar won the championship race against Dnepr-1.
On this occasion, I have a phrase: “You can do more with good words and weapons than with good words.” Likewise, money and administrative resources can do more than just money,” added Frankov.
- Shakhtar became champions for the 14th time in history.
- Dnipro-1 has played 29 matches, scored 64 points and is in second place in the UPL standings, ahead of Zorya Luhansk only by personal meetings.
- Dnipro must beat Kryvbas in the final round to ensure their path to Champions League qualification. In a parallel fight, Zorya will face Minai. Both matches will take place on Sunday, June 4, starting at 15:00.
