Dmytro Chygrynskiy, the Ukrainian defender currently playing for Greek club Ionikos, is reportedly being pursued by two Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) clubs. Chygrynskiy’s agent, Alexander Pankov, did not disclose the names of the interested clubs, but stated that they are not the only ones seeking his client’s services. Teams from Asia and Greece are also said to be interested in the experienced defender. Chygrynskiy has previously played for UPL clubs Zaporozhye Metalurh, Dnipro, and Shakhtar Donetsk, as well as Spanish giants Barcelona.

Former Barcelona and Shakhtar Donetsk Catalan defender Dmitry Chygrynskiy may return to Ukraine. The player’s agent Alexander Pankov announced this in a comment to the Legioners Telegram channel.

The player’s representative stated that the 36-year-old defender fell into the field of interest of two UPL clubs, but did not reveal the name of the team.

Besides UPL clubs, teams from Asia and Greece are interested in Chygrynskiy’s services.

Since 2021, the Ukrainian has defended the colors of Ionikos from the city of Nicaea, and before that he played for AEK Athens for five years. Chygrynskiy’s contract with his current club, according to Transfermarkt, runs until June 30, 2024.

Ionikos itself was relegated from the Greek Super League this season, the team won 27 points this season and finished second last in the standings. As part of the team, Chygrynskiy played 53 matches in which he scored two goals.

  • From the Donetsk club, Chygrynskiy moved to Barcelona for 25 million euros in 2009.
