Former Ukrainian national team midfielder Evgeny Levchenko, who is now head of the Dutch football players’ union, reacted to his former club Groningen’s relegation from the Eredivisie.
Yesterday, May 7, Evgeny Levchenko’s former team drew with Go Ahead Eagles (1:1) and lost a theoretical chance to keep a residence permit in the elite division of the Dutch championship.
Levchenko admitted that until the end he believed that Groningen would be able to remain in the elite, but he hoped. That the team will soon return to the Eredivisie and become stronger.
“My heart goes out to all Groningen fans. Until the end, I think (hope) that Groningen will do the job. heartache
Cry, analyze and get back to the big leagues as soon as possible. Stronger than before. Nothing will beat Groningen,” wrote Levchenko on his Instagram.
After the 31st game played, Groningen scored 18 points and finished second last in the standings three rounds before the end of the Dutch championship. Excelsior is in 16th place with 28 points.
Remember that Levchenko played for “green-white” in the period from 2005 to 2009. Also in the Netherlands, Eugene played Cambuur, Vitesse, Rotterdam Sparta, Willem II and Helmond Sport.
