Following the results of the 25th round of the UAE Championship, the Al-Ain club led by the Ukrainian specialist, Serhiy Rebrov, lost the chance to win the championship, but confirmed a place in the Asian Champions League qualifiers.
Al-Ain, led by Ukrainian coach Sergei Rebrov, defeated Al-Wasl in an away match of the 25th round of the UAE Championship today (3:2).
Ukrainian midfielder Andriy Yarmolenko featured in the visitors’ starting line-up, but did not score in an effective performance. The midfielder was replaced in the 77th minute of the meeting by Moroccan player El-Mehdi Mubarik with a score of 2:1.
Al-Ain conceded in the fifth minute, but from the middle of the first half he played in the majority due to the removal of Serbian defender Aleksandar Vasilievich, which he took advantage of after the break, when midfielder Bandar Mohammed scored twice.
Al Wasl equalized in the 90th minute from the penalty spot, but Al Ain grabbed the win in the 12th minute of injury time thanks to a goal by Brazilian Jonathan Santos.
In a parallel fight, Al-Ahli got a decisive victory over Baniyas and became the champion of the United Arab Emirates one round before the finish line (2:1).
Al-Ahly leads Al-Ain by three points with one round remaining, but has a head-to-head advantage (2:1, 1:1).
Al Ain have secured a place in the top three and will represent the UAE in the Asian Champions League qualifiers in 2024/25.
Team Rebrov will compete for second place with Al-Wahda in the final round of the UAE Championship, which will be held on May 26.
The 33-year-old Yarmolenko moved to Al Ain in the summer transfer window as a free agent, making 30 appearances for the UAE side in all competitions, scoring nine goals and making six assists.
Remember that last season, Rebrov led Al Ain to the title in the UAE.
