Former Dynamo head coach Alexander Khatskevich claims that the success of the team under Mircea Lucescu was a result of his previous work. Khatskevich believes that he was the one who assembled the Dynamo team with Lucescu, leading them to win the treble in the 2020/21 season. According to Khatskevich, the team was not strengthened with high-quality new players under Lucescu’s tenure. He also criticized Lucescu’s performance in European competitions, stating that the team’s performance has declined over time. Khatskevich led Dynamo from 2017 to 2019, winning two Ukrainian Super Cups during his tenure. Lucescu took over and immediately won the Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup but has not won any titles in the following campaigns.

“For me, Lucescu will always remain Shakhtar’s coach. Whoever said that in the first year he won everything possible in Ukraine. I will repeat again that the teacher comes when the class is assembled.”
According to the expert, under the Romanian coach, the team was not replenished with high-quality new players.
“It was not Lucescu who gathered this team at that time. I installed that Dynamo, then Alexei Mikhailichenko. Only Ilya Zabarny was added. Under Lucescu, no one was added from the players, it was a team that was already assembled. I may be harsh, but the team has not made any progress in the last two years.”

Khatskevich criticized Lucescu for his unsuccessful performance in European competitions.
“There is rhetoric that we have a young team, we will now beat ourselves, covid, empty places. Yes, you got into the Champions League, but how many goals did you score? In the first year, four points, they beat Ferencváros and drew, in the second year – two draws with Benfica (actually one – more or less FanDay.net). That’s six points out of 30 in the Champions League.”
The expert stressed that Kiev’s performance in European competition only falls over time.
“Lucescu spoke well, everything was great. Then the Europa League, and the team did not leave the group. Again there is talk that the team is young and rebuilding for the third year,” said Khatskevich in an interview with SportArena.
- Khatskevich led Dynamo from 2017 to 2019. and won two Ukrainian Super Cups with the team;
- After the resignation of Khatskevich during the 2019/20 season, the white-blue received Mikhailichenko and won the National Cup;
- Lucescu started working at Dynamo at the beginning of the following season and immediately won the championship of the Ukrainian Cup and the Super Cup. The next two campaigns went by without any titles being won.
