Croatian specialist Igor Jovicevich, who led Shakhtar to the league title last season, has officially left the Donetsk club. The agreement between Jovicevich and Shakhtar was terminated, along with the entire coaching staff. Under Jovicevich’s leadership, Shakhtar became champions of Ukraine for the 14th time, finished third in the Champions League group, and reached the 1/8 finals of the Europa League. The main candidate for the position of head coach is Dutch specialist Patrick van Leeuwen, who previously led Lugansk Zorya. This departure marks the end of a successful season for Jovicevich and his coaching team.

Croatian specialist Igor Jovicevich, who managed Shakhtar last season and led the team to the league title, has officially left the Donetsk club.


Igor Jovičević left Shakhtar after a year as head coach. The Donetsk club has decided to terminate the contract with the Croatian coach. The agreement is valid until June 30, 2024.

Along with Jovicic, the entire coaching staff left the team. This was officially reported by the Pitmen press service.

“Thanks to Igor Jovichevich and his assistants for quality work and high professionalism, for a wonderful victory and unforgettable emotions. It was a bright season, where you forever wrote your name in the history of Shakhtar.

Special thanks for the active civic stance supporting Ukraine and Ukrainians,” Shakhtar’s press service said in a statement.

  • Jovićević, 49, has been in charge of Shakhtar since July last year. Pitmen became champions of Ukraine for the 14th time in history, finished third in the Champions League group and reached the 1/8 finals of the Europa League.
  • Under his leadership, the club played 40 official matches, where they won 24 times, drew 10 times and lost six matches.
  • Previously, the Croatian specialist led Lviv Carpathians, Slovenian Celje, Dynamo Zagreb and Dnipro-1.
  • The main candidate for the position of head coach of Shakhtar is the Dutch specialist Patrick van Leeuwen, who last season led Lugansk Zorya.
