The former head coach of the Ukrainian national team and Dynamo Kyiv, Mikhail Fomenko, is currently facing serious health issues. The 74-year-old coach has been hospitalized and is undergoing treatment for oncology. Fomenko is well-known for his role as the coach of the Ukrainian national team from 2012 to 2016, leading them to Euro 2016. However, the team failed to perform well in the tournament, losing all three matches in Quartet C. Fomenko has also coached various teams in Ukraine and abroad, including Dynamo, CSKA, and Iraq’s Rashid.

Throughout his coaching career, the authoritative coach is best remembered for leading the national team of the country he led from 2012 to 2016. Under the leadership of Fomenko, the Blue-Yellows made it to Euro 2016, but the team failed in the tournament: in Quartet C, the Ukrainian team lost in the third -three matches:

  • Germany (0:2),
  • Northern Ireland (0:2),
  • Poland (0:1).

On June 23, 2016, Fomenko resigned as head coach of the Ukrainian national team.

  • During Ukraine’s independence, Fomenko coached Dynamo, Veres, CSKA-Borisfen, Metallist, CSKA, Metallurg Zaporozhye and Tavria.
  • Abroad, the Ukrainian specialist leads Iraq’s Rashid, Guinea’s national team and Russia’s Salyut.
