Volyn in the 2021/22 season played in the First League of the Ukrainian Championship and finished tenth after 19 rounds. The tournament was suspended due to the outbreak of a large-scale war in our country.
The Lutsk club did not start last season of the Ukrainian championship due to financial problems. Former Volyn head coach Albert Shakhov spoke about the current situation around the team.
“Unfortunately, it is not possible to talk about any specifics at this stage. We are looking for investors, sponsors, knocking on all possible doors to our officials.
Happiness is not about money, at least that’s what they say. But without them in modern life and football is nowhere. It is the financial issue that is now the main issue for Volyn. And only the size of the budget will determine the future of the club from Lutsk,” said Shakhov.
Volyn can keep its place in the First League, despite the fact that it missed out last season. This decision was made by the PFL leadership after the start of the massive war.

However, Shakhov said that the Lutsk club will be forced to fall into the lower division.
“If we get financial support, we will definitely apply for next season. However, we are definitely not talking about the First League! Either as an amateur, or at most we will play in the Second League.
And the matter here is not only about potential sponsors, their absence or presence: we missed the period when we passed the certification for the First League. We did not submit any documents to the PFL,” added Shakhov in an interview with the Ukrainian Football website.
