Shakhtar Donetsk President Rinat Akhmetov has decided to replace their current coach Igor Jovicevich, according to Bombardier YouTube channel author Roman Bebekh. Jovicevich was sacked after winning their 14th Ukrainian title. Bebekh wrote in his Telegram channel that Shakhtar are considering two candidates to replace Jovićević. One of the candidates knows Shakhtar very well from Europe, but Bebekh doesn’t believe that he will come to Ukraine now. The second and more likely candidate is Patrick van Leeuwen. Jovicevich took over Shakhtar in the summer of 2022 and his mentoring contract with the club lasts until June 30, 2024.

Bebeh wrote in his Telegram channel that Shakhtar are considering two candidates to replace Jovićević.
“The colleague’s information about breaking up with Igor Jovicevich is confirmed. This is the President’s decision. It has already been accepted and announced. Now Shakhtar have two candidates. A coach knows Shakhtar very well from Europe. I do not believe that he will come to Ukraine now. And the second, more real one is Patrick van Leeuwen,” wrote Bebeh.
- Remember that Jovićević took over Shakhtar in the summer of 2022. With him, the team won the UPL, finished third in the Champions League group stage and reached the 1/8 finals of the LE. The mentoring contract with Pitmen lasts until June 30, 2024.
- For Shakhtar, Jovicevich left Dnepr-1 with a scandal, which he faced from 2020 to 2022. The management of the sports club stated that they had the option to unilaterally renew the contract with the coach, but the matter did not go beyond the accusations in the media.
