Former Ukraine national team and Dynamo Kyiv striker Viktor Leonenko has revealed why he did not include Girona winger Viktor Tsyhankov in his UPL team for the 2022/23 season. Leonenko, who is now a football expert, joined Jozsef Szabo and Oleg Fedorchuk in making up the symbolic UPL team of the upcoming season. While Leonenko included Dnepr-1 midfielder Pikhalenok and Shakhtar Stepanenko in midfield, Tsygankov did not make the cut. Leonenko believes that the media is giving undue praise to the Girona winger, and that he does not deserve all the attention despite his six assists for the La Liga side.

The former Dynamo striker believes that the media is writing too much about the Girona winger and giving undue praise.

“I don’t want to include Tsygankov for the first part of the season at Dynamo. Much is being written about him now. One man only had six assists in Girona, and they made him Messi.

People are crazy! It seems that Tsygankov has already turned into Zinchenko in terms of the number of mentions in the media, but at least Viktor has a clear position on the field, “said Leonenko.

  • Note that at the end of the season, Girona finished tenth in La Liga.
  • Tsygankov, 25, has made 19 appearances for Girona this season, scoring three goals and making six assists.
