Former Shakhtar Donetsk striker, Evgeny Seleznev, has revealed that he failed to make an impact at his hometown club because he was too young and naive. Seleznev, who will play in a charity match in Uzhgorod, believes that he can prove himself better if he returns to the club where he spent seven seasons between 2002-2009. The 37-year-old played 74 matches for Shakhtar, scoring 30 goals and providing seven assists. During his tenure, he won the Ukrainian Cup, twice the Ukrainian Super Cup, and became the champion of Ukraine.

Former Ukrainian national team striker Evgeny Seleznev revealed why he failed to play for his native Donetsk Shakhtar. The famous striker believes that he can prove himself better.


On Tuesday, June 6, Shakhtar Donetsk graduate Evgeny Seleznev will play a charity match in Uzhgorod.

On the eve of the game, Seleznev gave an interview in which he recalled his performance at Shakhtar Donetsk (2002-2009).

“Could I have done better? can. Then it was a brilliant time and I swam a little. I realized that there were cars, money, clubs. At that time, I did not understand where I ended up, what a miner was. Everything is easy for me, both training and goals. And then he came and all the stars were in front of me, the man suffered a little.

Seleznev believes that he can show himself better when he returns to his original club (2011-2012 and 2016).

“When I came back to Shakhtar, I was older. I am already a ready soccer player. Being the top scorer of the championship in the Dnieper (2010/11 – 17 goals), confidence appeared. But he can still prove himself better,” Seleznev told the Sportarena YouTube channel.
