Reports from the Dutch press suggest that Gheorghe Hadji, the legendary Romanian footballer who currently plays for the national team under Mircea Lucescu, could be on the cards as the next head coach of Ajax Amsterdam. Hadji recently led Romania’s Farul to the first league title in its history, and the 58-year-old coach has previously led several teams including Viitorul, Galatasaray, Steaua, and the Romanian national team. Ajax’s acting head coach is John Heitinga, who left the club at the end of the season, and Amsterdam finished third in the Dutch championship and will play in the Europa League qualifying play-offs.

Ajax’s acting head coach is John Heitinga, who left the club at the end of the season.

Hadji commented on Ajax’s interest in him.

“I do not know. Surprisingly, I really don’t know. I grew up in Ajax, you know I love it. I do my job. If this is true, then so be it, if not…,” said Hadji in an interview with Romanian TV channel PRO TV.

Previously, the 58-year-old Hadji led the following teams:

  • Viitorul (Romania);
  • Galatasaray (Turkey);
  • Steaua (Romania);
  • Poli Timisoara (Romania);
  • Galatasaray (Turkey);
  • Bursaspor (Turkey);
  • Romanian national team.
  • During his playing career, Hadji played for the Romanian national team, where he played 125 matches and scored 35 goals.
  • Under the leadership of Lucescu, the footballer played 29 matches for the national team, in which he scored seven goals.
  • Hadji also has experience playing at Brescia and Galatasaray, whose head coach is Dynamo Kyiv.
