Real Madrid’s backup goalkeeper Andrey Lunin intends to stay at the club for next season, according to Spanish journalist Alfredo Matilla. The Ukrainian shot-stopper has been linked with a move away from the club due to limited playing time, but Matilla claims that Lunin is satisfied with life in Madrid and wants to continue playing for Real. The journalist also revealed that manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen to sign a new goalkeeper to replace Thibaut Courtois as the first-choice option. While the club is reportedly unwilling to spend money on a new signing, Ancelotti is said to prefer the idea.
The authoritative journalist of the Spanish edition of Relevo, Alfredo Matilla, announced the intention of Ukrainian goalkeeper Andrei Lunin to stay at Real Madrid for next season.
Andrey Lunin is Real Madrid’s backup goalkeeper and is losing out in the competition for a place in Belgium’s Thibault Courtois. The Ukrainian goalkeeper is thinking of changing clubs. The player’s interest shows Scottish Celtic.
However, Relevo Spanish journalist Alfredo Matilla said Andrei was satisfied with everything in Madrid.
“His performance convinced the board more than the coaching staff. Although he still has doubts, he wants to continue playing for Real Madrid. Lunin became a father in Madrid. He is happy with the city,” Matilla wrote.
Alfredo also revealed that Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti wants to sign a new goalkeeper to replace substitute Courtois.
“The club does not want to spend money to strengthen this position, but Ancelotti prefers to sign a new goalkeeper. There are reports about David Soria, Bunu, Gassaniga, Robert Sanchez,” said Matilla.
- The 24-year-old Lunin has played 12 games in all competitions this season and conceded 13 goals.
- The Ukrainian goalkeeper’s contract with the Madrid club is valid until June 2024.
