Grigory Surkis, former president of Kiev Dynamo and Ukrainian people’s deputy, may lose his title of honorary citizen of Kharkiv region. The Kharkiv Regional Council held a vote, with most deputies refusing to strip Surkis of the title. However, 32 deputies voted in favour of the move while 11 were against it, and two abstained. Surkis has held several high-profile positions in football, including former president of the Football Federation of Ukraine, UEFA Vice President and former president of Dynamo. In politics, he has been a member of the Ukrainian People’s Deputies and a current member of the Opposition Party – For Life.
Former Kyiv Dynamo president and Ukrainian people’s deputy from the outlawed OPPL party, Grigory Surkis, could lose the title of honorary citizen of Kharkiv region.
Most deputies of the Kharkiv Regional Council refused to deprive Grigory Surkis of the title of honorary citizen of the Kharkiv region. It was reported by Kharkiv Today.
How the Kharkiv Regional Council voted on this issue:
- 32 deputies voted to strip the title (European Unity, Servant of the People and Svetlichnaya Bloc).
- Against – 11 (Block Kernes, headed by Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, and a former deputy from the Opposition Platform for Life).
- Two deputies abstained.
It should be noted that before the voting, 88 deputies were registered in the chamber, which means the fact that many silently support Grigory Surkis.
