Everton’s left-back Ruben Vinagre is set to return to Sporting Portugal after playing for the Toffees on loan. Vinagre, who is a rival in the position of Ukrainian Vitaliy Mykolenko, joined Everton on loan from Sporting in July last year. He made four appearances this season without scoring and missed the last three months due to injury. Vinagre’s return will leave Everton without a left-back, while Liverpool will also be without Conor Coady, who is on loan from Wolverhampton. Everton finished 17th in the standings and retained their place in the English Premier League.

Club director Kevin Thelwell thanked both players for their performances last season.

Portugal’s Vinagre is understudy to Ukraine’s Vitaliy Mykolenko at Everton’s left-back position.

  • Vinagre, 24, joined Everton on loan from Sporting in July last year and has made four appearances this season without scoring. Ruben missed the last three months due to injury.
  • Mikolenko, who is the same age as Vinagre, made 35 appearances in all competitions last campaign, but also did not score a goal or provide a single assist.
  • Everton finished 17th in the standings and retained their place in the English Premier League.
